Johan Santana: We're Right On Track

Responding to reports that his season was in jeopardy by setbacks in his recovery, New York Mets ace Johan Santana said that nothing has changed for him or his program.

"I don't know who's saying that I'm not ready or whatever, because according to everything, the way it has been done, we're right on the right track and where we're supposed to be.

"Whoever is saying that I'm not ready I think is lying.  We are all on the same page here.  And I've been doing my job and doing my rehab and everything the way it's supposed to be done.  There's many updates I can do on a day-to-day basis.  It's going to take some time, and we're all aware of that."

To Santana, it's pretty simple: how can there have been a setback when he has just started to toss the ball on flat ground?

"I haven't even got on the mound.  I haven't even forced my body to try to throw hard. It's just a slow process and I'm just doing it with caution," Santana said.

None of this means the Mets will get Santana back this season, but it does allow fans and front office executives alike keep hope alive that he will return before 2012.
