Bobby Valentine Interested In Purchasing Stake In Mets?

Bobby Valentine could not get an interview for the New York Mets managerial job when it was open this past offseason. In fact the former Mets skipper has not gotten much interest from big-league clubs since the Mets let him go after the 2002 season.

So, what to do? Well, if you can't talk your way in the door then buy your way in -- and that seems to be what Valentine is considering doing. A report surfaced this morning that Valentine is looking to put together a group to buy a partial stake in the Mets, who are looking to sell approximately a 25 percent share of the team.

"I've talked to a number of people interested in purchasing part of the New York Mets, but I'm not formally with any group that is actively pursuing this venture," Valentine said Sunday night.

Valentine managed the Mets from 1996-2002, going 536-467 (.534) and managing the Mets to the 2000 World Series. He managed the Texas Rangers from 1985-1992.
