Terry Collins is officially your manager, New York Mets fans. The team said today it has hired Collins, 61, and will introduce him at a press conference Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Four candidates, Collins, Wally Backman, Chip Hale and Bob Melvin were brought in for second interviews by new general manager Sandy Alderson. Collins, a two-time skipper, who has not managed in the big leagues since 1999, was chosen.

“It’s not just a question of who we are. It’s a question of who we want to be as an organization,” Alderson said earlier this week. “It was interesting for us to find out whether that vision was shared by others. And in some cases, it might have been confirmed. In some cases, it might have caused us to rethink what we had ourselves imagined.”
