Terry Collins Will Be Next Mets' Manager

ESPN New York is reporting that Terry Collins will be the next manager of the New York Mets. The Mets will only confirm that they have selected a manager.

“We’ve made our decision and we’re working on the terms of a contract,” said Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz, who declined to confirm the selection of Collins.

Collins, former Arizona manager Bob Melvin, Chip Hale and former Mets second baseman Wally Backman were the four finalists for the job.

Collins, 61, has a 444-434 record in two stops as a major league manager with the Anaheim Angels and Houston Astros. He has not held a managerial job since quitting the Angels job in 1999.

Collins has never taken a team to the playoffs as manager. MetsBlog has some details on where the other three finalists may end up.
