Mike Woodson 'Glad' Knicks Bypassed Shot At Phil Jackson

The New York Knicks have hitched their coaching wagon to Mike Woodson long-term. For better or worse, the Knicks have given Woodson the job without even asking Phil Jackson -- the guy with more NBA titles than any other coach -- if he might like the job.

Woodson appeared on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio New York recently, and of course said he was "glad" the Knicks never talked to Jackson.

Woodson led the Knicks to an 18-6 regular-season record before New York was ousted in the first round of the NBA Playoffs by the Miami Heat.

"I liked the team we ended with, but it's gotta be a healthy team," Woodson said. "That's what is important and injuries I thought played a role in how we played, but the team never quit and I was very, very excited and happy with the way we played."

Only time will tell if Woodson is right. And, for that matter, if Woodson and star player Carmelo Anthony are the right lead characters for the Knicks.
