The NBA Draft always brings a frenzy of maneuvers and misdirections, and Syracuse's Dion Waiters is reportedly providing his share.
Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated reported Thursday that Waiters is involved in a dizzying set of movements from three teams drafting among the top seven picks in Thursday night's 2012 NBA Draft.
The Portland Trail Blazers -- who already have pick Nos. 6 and 11 -- might consider moving up to No. 3 to select Waiters. The Golden St. Warriors are also interested at No. 7, and the Cleveland Cavaliers may or may not be misguiding everyone by giving signals that they could draft Waiters at No. 4.
Confused yet? Amick explains:
While Waiters is known to be in the Cavs' mix, sending out the message that he's their guy at No. 4 could lead to (Bradley) Beal's landing in their lap.
Here's that scenario: The Bobcats select Kansas power forward Thomas Robinson, as many expect them to do if they keep the No. 2 pick. Then the Trail Blazers, if successful in obtaining the third pick, take Waiters there, leaving Beal to Cleveland.
Meanwhile, Golden State (No. 7) is known to have Waiters on its short list. All this chatter could inspire the Warriors to be more aggressive in an attempt to move up.
