2012 NBA Draft: Scoop Jardine Breaks Foot, Will Have Surgery Tuesday

After months of working out for NBA teams and seemingly making an impression on scouts, former Syracuse guard Scoop Jardine's dreams of becoming a professional basketball player took a serious hit this past weekend as he broke his right foot in a workout in Los Angeles.

The injury, which happened when the 6-foot-2 guard landed on the foot of Mississippi State's Dee Bost, willl force Jardine to have surgery in LA on Tuesday and then undergo six to eight weeks of rehabilitation. The recovery time will force the Philadelphia native to miss the NBA's Summer League, which is vital in a rookie development.

"I’m trying to stay positive,’’ Jardine laughed when he talked to the Syracuse Post Standard, "I’ll probably be able to jump after this.’’

According to Jardine, who thanked SU fans via Twitter on Tuesday, he will begin his rehab in LA and then return to the Syracuse area to work out with SU trainer Brad Pike.

Judging from ost prospect rankings board, it seems Jardine was unlikely to be drafted. Before the injury, however, Jardine said he had positive workouts with many different NBA teams, including the New York Knicks.
