New York Knicks Center Tyson Chandler Wins Defensive Player Of The Year

Finally, one thing has gone right for the New York Knicks during their postseason run; Tyson Chandler won the Defensive Player of the Year Award, according to Yahoo sports.

Chandler deserves the accolade in a season where New York went from a complete laughingstock defensively to one of the better squads in that facet of the game.

The Knicks made the quantum leap from 27th in overall defense in 2010-11 to 11th this season, shaving off 11 points per game in the process.

Chandler is the biggest reason for that turnaround along with Mike Woodson, thanks to his enthusiastic play and willingness to do the dirty work.

The big man is the first Knick to ever win the award, somewhat surprising when you consider some of the greats that called Madison Square Garden home back in the late 1960's and 70's.

Even with all that's gone wrong in New York this season, Chandler was undoubtedly one of if not the best pickups of the offseason and looks to be a force for years to come in the paint.
