Mike D'Antoni Resigns: James Dolan Statement, 'This Was Not An Event That Was Planned'

New York Knicks owner James Dolan spoke at a press conference on Wednesday about the resignation of head coach Mike D'Antoni.

Dolan said a meeting this morning about D'Antoni's status was not planned.

About D'Antoni's resignation, Dolan said that both sides "mutually agreed that it would be best for the organization if he did not continue."

Dolan also said that "The season is not over and this team can still be the team that our fans hoped it could be."

After he made his statement, Dolan left without answering questions from the media which continues a streak he began in 2007.

Mike Woodson, former Atlanta Hawks head coach (2004-2010) and current Knicks assistant, will be taking over on an interim basis for D'Antoni. Woodson was 206-286 (.419) with the Hawks but took Atlanta to the playoffs in each of his last three seasons there.
