Mike D'Antoni Resigns: New York Knicks Promote Mike Woodson To Interim Head Coach

New York Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni is now former New York Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni.

D'Antoni resigned Wednesday from his position as head coach of the Knicks and Mike Woodson has been promoted to interim head coach, according to Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski. The decision came after a six-game losing streak dropped the Knicks to 18-24, tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Reports have swirled around the Big Apple that New York's star-studded roster was not pleased with D'Antoni, who entered his Knicks stint with a reputation as an offensive mastermind but could not find a way to maximize New York's talent.

The Knicks signed Amare Stoudemire, traded for Carmelo Anthony, acquired Tyson Chandler and hit lightning in a bottle when an undrafted point guard named Jeremy Lin who was signed off the waiver wire became a worthy starter. But still, the Knicks have struggled to find any sort of consistent cohesion, and at some point the blame was bound to fall on D'Antoni.
