The Slam Dunk Competition highlights the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities this evening (8 p.m., TNT). There is excitement because high-flying Los Angeles Clippers first-year player Blake Griffin will headline the event. The New York Knicks, of course, havequite the history with the Slam Dunk Competition. Nate Robinson, now with Boston and not competing this time around, is a three-time champion and won in both 2009 and 2010.
Here is Nate winning his first title in 2006:
Going way back to 1989 the first Knicks dunk champion was Kenny 'Sky' Walker.
No look at dunk competitions, and great dunkers, is complete without a look at Julius Erving. These are in-game dunks by Dr. J, and most when he was a Philadelphia 76er, but I couldn't resist including them. When it comes to dunks, there has still never been anyone quite like the Doctor.
