In today’s episode of the long-running NBA ‘Melo-Drama’ there is a whole lot of chatter, but there really isn’t anything new swirling in the breeze on the Carmelo Anthony trade front.
— The Los Angeles Lakers are denying another rumor that they would deal Andrew Bynum to get Anthony.
— Kobe Bryant talked about Anthony without, naturally, really saying anything.
— Walt Frazier says the Knicks need Anthony.
“We’re going to make the playoffs now. But trying to get to the next level, you need that one other guy. That would be Carmelo Anthony, I believe,” said Frazier.
‘Clyde’ is right, of course. You can’t contend with one superstar when the best team in the Eastern Conference (Boston) has four and the second-best (Miami) has three.
— Finally, it seems like folks around the NBA still believe the New Jersey Nets will be major players in the Anthony situation before the trade deadline.
“You know Denver’s going to call back,” predicted one agent whose client was involved directly in the proposed megadeal that Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov short-circuited Jan. 19. “And when the Nuggets call, you think the Nets are going to hang up?”
Probably not.
