Knicks Say Wilson Chandler Won't Get Away

The New York Knicks might trade for Denver's Carmelo Anthony. Then again, they might trade for Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns. No one knows for sure right now. One thing for certain, though, is that the Knicks have no intention of letting Wilson Chandler escape to free agency.

Here is Knicks president Donnie Walsh talking to the New York Post about Chandler.

"Wilson's a restricted free agent and I'm going to sign him. He's a helluva player."

Chandler, 23, is averaging 17.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The Post speculated that Chandler may seek a contract in the neighborhood of five years, $60 million. As a restricted free agent the Knicks can match any offer Chandler receives.

In the previous two season Chandler averaged 14.4 and 15.3 points per game. He is shooting career bests of 48.9 percent overall and 38.6 percent from three-point range this season.

SB Nation's Knicks blog, Posting and Toasting, is happy to see Walsh so adamant about keeping Chandler.
