Carmelo Anthony Trade To New Jersey Almost A Done Deal?

Could an end to the Carmelo Anthony ‘Melo-Drama’ be coming as soon as this weekend? This soap opera has taken so many twists and turns that the best approach is to probably take an “I’ll believe it when I see it” stance, but that is what is currently being reported.

The New York Post is saying that the New Jersey Nets could complete a long-discussed three-team deal to acquire Anthony involing the Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons as early as this weekend. The Bergen Record says a deal appears close, but could take until early next week for logistical reasons.

Here is what the deal is expected to look like:

The deal could look similar to the one reported last weekend, but could have some new faces as the Nuggets want the Nets to take back more salary.

But the principals should be the Nets getting Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Anthony Carter and Sheldon Williams from Denver and Richard Hamilton and DaJuan Summers from Detroit. In turn, the Nets would send Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Anthony Morrow, Stephen Graham, Quinton Ross, Ben Uzoh and two first-round picks to Denver and Troy Murphy and Johan Petro to Detroit.

Meanwhile, the New York Knicks are reportedly still trying to piece together a three-team deal of their own to entice the Nuggets to trade Anthony to them. The Knicks are reportedly trying to involve the Memphis Grizzlies in a deal that would send Memphis guard O.J. Mayo to Denver. ESPN also reported that the Knicks still do not believe Anthony will sign an extension with the Nets.

Amazing how quickly this whole situations swings back-and-forth. One day ‘Melo is nearly a Net. The next day it appears it’s Knicks or bust for him. Now, it seems a deal to New Jersey is the likely result.

I guess we will all just have to wait and see.
