Morning Coffee! The Knicks Are Homeless

Good morning, New York sports fans. Here is your first look at the local sports scene.

  • New Yorkers are used to seeing homeless folks on the streets of the city, that's hardly unusual. Homeless basketball teams, though? THAT is unusual, and today that is what the New York Knicks are. The sky did not exactly fall on Madison Square Garden Tuesday, but asbestos did fall from the ceiling onto the basketball court, leaving the arena unplayable and forcing cancellation of a game against the Orlando Magic. The Knicks might end up temporarily at the Izod Center, where the New Jersey Nets used to play, or the Prudential center, where they currently play. Pretty amazing! The world's most famous arena, and no playable basketball court.

  • The Syracuse Orange in a BCS bowl game? The fact that it is even a possibility at this point might even be a more unlikely story than the Knicks not having a home. It is possible, though, since Syracuse could actually get to 10 wins.

  • Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards was critical of the "arrogance" of his fellow wide receivers after they had a difficult day, dropping several passes, in Sunday's 9-0 loss to Green Bay.
  • ↵
  • The New Jersey Nets do have a place to play, and they look to go 3-1 on the young season when they host the 0-3 Charlotte Bobcats tonight at Prudential Center.
  • ↵
  • In NHL action, the struggling New Jersey Devils are in Chicago to face the defending champion Blackhawks, the New York Islanders are at Carolina vs. the Hurricanes and the New York Rangers visit the Philadelphia Flyers. Come to think of it, the Madison Square Garden mess makes the Rangers homeless, too.
