Morning Coffee! Holiday Gift-Wrap Edition

Good morning, New York sports fans! It is an NFL Monday and that means, of course, that whether you actually think it is a good day depends on which New York team you root for.

  • You think it's a great day if you root for the New York Jets. The Jets snuck out of Cleveland with a gift-wrapped 26-20 overtime victory against the Browns. Thank you very much, Chancy Stuckey and Eric Mangini. Stuckey fumbled away Cleveland's shot at a game-winning field goal in overtime. Later, the Man-genius stupidly had Colt McCoy trying to pass from his own 3-yard line with 1:35 left on the clock. That decision left the Jets time, and put the ball deep in Cleveland territory after a short punt. Play for the tie, Genius! You really had no choice.

  • You think today is a terrible day if you are a fan of the New York Giants. That's because your team seemed to forget than despite having a 6-2 record to Dallas's 1-7, you don't win games on reputation. You actually have to show up and play them. Speaking of gift-wrap, the Giants gift-wrapped a 33-20 victory for Dallas with awful defense and a slew of mistakes on offense. It is getting close to the holidays, and maybe the Giants were feeling bad for the obviously needy Cowboys. They played that way. Even the New Meadowlands Stadium lights didn't come to play.

  • The New York Islanders have overtaken the New Jersey Devils for the title of Worst Local Hockey Team. The Isles have now lost 10 straight after a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings Sunday night.

  • The New York Rangers defeated the Buffalo Sabres in overtime Sunday. Hey, at least one local hockey team is halfway decent.
