Tim Tebow To Request Trade Following 2012 NFL Season?

Reports speculate that if Tim Tebow continues to be a backup with a bit part for the entire season, the third-year QB would request a trade from the New York Jets.

After Tim Tebow took only nine snaps in the New York Jets' top-secret Wildcat offense in their 48-28 win over the Buffalo Bills Sunday, some are speculating the third-year QB would request a trade at the end of the season if his role doesn't increase.

As always, the world wants to talk about Tim Tebow. We haven't heard anything from the quarterback's mouth about this yet, but a column by Gary Myers in the Daily News Thursday featured quotes from an NFL source speculating the world's only superstar backup wouldn't let his competitive nature keep him in a reserve role.

"I think he will be a good soldier," one NFL source said Wednesday. "At the end of the year, I think he will express those concerns to the Jets. He will want to move on. The one thing about Tebow is he is the quintessential team player. He would never do anything that is going to undermine the team. But he’s football-aholic. It’s in his blood."

Whether or not Tebow has proven himself as a starting quarterback in the NFL is a debate amongst NFL fans and TV personalities alike: he started two years as a backup in Denver, only to emerge and lead the team to multiple dramatic wins in both seasons, including a playoff victory this past season over Pittsburgh. But the Jets traded for him to be Mark Sanchez' backup, and its unclear whether they have bigger plans for the Wildcat set than his bit performance - no passing attempts, five rushes for 11 yards.

It's reasonable to expect Tebow to be disappointed with a bit part, but we'll have to wait to the season to see whether he actually becomes dissatisfied, or whether he accepts his role. And of course, he could always see increased playing time, which would be a story in its own right.
