New York Jets Training Camp 2012: Santonio Holmes Doubtful For Preseason Opener

After suffering a rib injury on Saturday in a team scrimmage, Santonio Holmes is now doubtful for the preseason opener on Friday against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Rex Ryan via ESPN.com.

Holmes doesn't have any broken bones after an x-ray revealed nothing of the cracked variety, but will be held out of practice on Monday. The New York Jets star wide receiver had already been taking in training camp from the sidelines last week, due to what he called general soreness.

The injury is suspected to have been suffered when Holmes was hit by cornerback Antonio Cromartie.

It's unlikely the Jets are very concerned to this point given the severity of Holmes' problems. At the same point though Holmes is the lifeblood of the offense with no proven weapon on the outside for Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow to connect with.
