After going defense to offense with their first two picks in the 2012 NFL Draft, the New York Jets went defense again as they took Arkansas State linebacker Demario Davis with their third-round selection, No. 77 overall. Davis is a 6-foot-2, 325-pound outside linebacker prospect that many feel fits the Jets defensive scheme well.
Davis is a quick mover as he ran a 40-yard dash time of 4.52, which was third among all linebackers at the NFL Scouting Combine, and very strong -- he did 32 bench-press reps which was tops off all linebackers.
The criticism on Davis is that he needs time to develop mentally as he sometimes gets lost in coverage.
In the the first round, the Jets used their pick on on North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples, while in the second round New York went with Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill
