2012 NFL Mock Draft: New York Jets Linked To Whitney Mercilus

In the latest version of SB Nation's Mock Draft, Ryan Van Bibber has the New York Jets taking Whitney Mercilus with the 16th overall pick.

Mercilus has been slowly climbing up the draft boards for some time now, but if he's taken here it would represent a huge undercurrent of momentum for the defensive end out of Illinois.

Many experts are expected Mercilus to be selected towards the end of the first day, but Van Bibber raises solid points.

The Jets would be getting a terrific pass-rusher who recorded 16 sacks last season. However, the one big knock on Mercilus is whether or not he's a one year wonder.

In the 3-4 which New York plays he would also have to stand up and play as an outside linebacker, although that shouldn't be an overly difficult transition.

In a division with Tom Brady leading the charge, the Jets would be very wise to get a disruptive force in the fold. Let's not forget that Aaron Maybin led the team with just six sacks last year.
