According to ESPN New York's Rich Cimini, the New York Jets have announced that they have extended quarterback Mark Sanchez's contract.

The terms of the contract extension have yet to be released, but this extension officially dispels any Peyton Manning rumors and is a major vote of confidence from the team to their young quarterback, who is entering his fourth year in the NFL.

In his first two seasons, Sanchez led the Jets to the AFC Championship game, but in his third year, Sanchez struggled and the team only went 8-8, missing the playoffs. Sanchez received a lot of criticism for his performance in 2011, but it appears that the Jets are prepared for a long-term marriage with Sanchez.
