Brandon Meriweather will not be headed to the New York Jets.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the two-time Pro Bowl safety, who reportedly visited the Jets, signed with the Washinton Redskins on Thursday.
With Meriweather moving on, expect the Jets to continue pursuing safeties in free agency. One name that has been mentioned in connection with the Jets is LaRon Landry, who suffered through an injury-riddled 2011 season but produces when healthy.
Rex Ryan is known to take fliers on big names whose production has not matched their reputation in recent seasons (think LaDanian Tomlinson), so it makes sense that the Jets are interested in Landry.
So far, the Jets have been relatively quiet in free agency.
