Filed under: Report Casts More Doubt On Future Of Peyton Manning

Troubling news has surfaced regarding Peyton Manning and his attempt to return to NFL action after missing the 2011 season with serious neck issues.'s Don Banks reported Wednesday that Manning has undergone four procedures on his neck in the last two years -- not three in the last year, which is what had previously been reported.

There is also this from Banks:

... league sources say Manning's neck has potentially developed bone spurs just above the point where his latest fusion surgery took place in early September, and the Colts organization is under the belief that it is nearly inevitable Manning will at some point require further surgery, and possibly another fusion procedure, even if he does successfully return to the field in 2012.

It is widely believed that Manning will be released by the Indianapolis Colts some time before a $28 million roster bonus is due next month. The New York Jets have been considered a potential landing spot -- if Manning is ever to play again
