Jets Offseason: Mark Sanchez Will Remain Starting Quarterback, Says New York Jets General Manager

During a conference call with season ticket holders on Friday, New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said Mark Sanchez would remain the team's starting quarterback in 2012.

"Mark will be our starter," he said.

Sanchez has come under siege for what is seen as a lack of improvement during his three years under center. The Jets limped to an 8-8 record, missing the postseason, and Sanchez made just small strides toward developing into the franchise quarterback many envisioned when the Jets drafted him.

He finished the season with a career-high 26 touchdowns compared to 18 interceptions, but his completion percentage (56.7) remained significantly lower than that of the elite quarterbacks. A New York Daily News report cited anonymous teammates ripping into Sanchez, but many in the Jets organization have since come to the quarterback's defense.
