Backup Jets center Robert Turner, who broke his leg in the preseason opener, has been placed on injured reserve.
This move means the Jets will not get an added influx of depth along the interior line. Although Nick Mangold was probably going to be back before Turner, the Jets have a number of unproven youngsters backing up on the inside.
Gang Green Nation ponders whether this will open the door for the Jets to bring in a veteran.
One possible replacement for Turner, and perhaps my choice, would be Shaun O’Hara, the ex-Giant. He is 34 years old and a free agent and although he has certainly lost a stop since his prime, he is still a better option to backup Nick Mangold than C Colin Baxter, who, despite playing fairly well this past weekend, was still a UDFA for good reason.
Turner was also a part of jumbo packages which have been absent from the New York offense in his absence.
