It wasn't pretty at times, and it took all 60 minutes to get the job done, but Rex Ryan and the New York Jets ultimately were able to defeat the Dallas Cowboys and begin their 2011 season 1-0. Their Week 2 opponent, the Jacksonville Jaguars, also won a tightly-contested game in their season opener, defeating the Tennessee Titans 16-14.
The two AFC squads don't have much history playing each other, but the Jaguars certainly have fared well against Gang Green. Jacksonville is 6-2 all time against New York, and has won the previous three outings, the last coming in 2009. Rex Ryan will lead the Jets against the Jaguars for the first time as head coach of the Jets, and something tells me that they'll break that streak this Sunday at the Meadowlands.
Let's take a look at the two teams' series history, broadcast information and other game notes, as well as a few stats for each squads after Week 1 of the young 2011 NFL season.
