Quarterback Mark Sanchez completed 19-of-32 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown, which featured wide receiver Santonio Holmes scoring with 4:57 remaining in the fourth quarter to help the New York Jets edge the Washington Redskins, 34-19, in a Week 13 NFL match up at FedEx Field in Landover, MD. The Jets improve to 7-5 overall, while the Redskins fall to 4-8.
New York, which trailed 13-10 at halftime, used a 51-yard field goal by kickwe Nick Folk to tie the game at 13 midway through the third quarter and took a 20-16 lead on Holmes' sixth touchdown grab of the season.
The Jets iced the game when linebacker Aaron Maybe sacked and stripped Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman with 4:26 to go, and linebacker Calvin Pace recovered the ball at the Washington nine-yard line. Two plays later, Jets running back Shonn Greene scored his second of three rushing touchdowns of the day when he took a direct snap from the Wildcat formation and ran it into the end zone from one yard out to give the Jets a 27-16 lead with 3:48 remaining.
The Redskins ended up scoring a touchdown and cut the Jets lead to 27-19 with 1:59, but Washington failed to recover the onside kick, which was picked up by the New York's Antonio Cromartie, who ran the ball down to the Redskins' 30-yard line. On the next play, Greene ran in for his third touchdown of the game.
Greene finished with a 68 rushing yards on 22 caries, while Holmes ended the game with a team-best four catches for 68-receiving yards.
