The Jets have a huge opportunity in front of them this Sunday night, with first place in the AFC East up for grabs against the rival Patriots. Both teams enter the game at 5-3 but going in different directions, with the Jets winners of three straight while New England enters on a two-game losing streak. Many eyes will be on the Jets' offense on Sunday, as they go up against the worst statistical defense in the NFL. This could mean some big numbers for fantasy football owners who have Jets on their team. Here is our Week 10 edition of Start/Sit for the New York Jets.
Start
QB - Mark Sanchez - numberFire projection: 20.74 completions, 247.77 yards, 1.48 TDs, 15.20 fantasy points
NumberFire projects Sanchez as the 13th ranked quarterback of the week, which is very respectable. With no teams on a bye this week, many people will have Sanchez as their backup, but he is not a bad play by any stretch. The Patriots secondary is downright awful, as its their pass rush, and the Jets will probably try to throw the ball downfield quite a bit. You could do worse this week than Sanchez.
WR - Santonio Holmes - numberFire projection: 4.07 receptions, 60.98 yards, 0.36 TDs, 8.44 fantasy points
Holmes found the end zone last week against the Buffalo Bills, but only had one other catch, But I think teams will continue to try and shut down Plaxico Burress when the Jets are in the red zone, leaving Holmes with some opportunities. I also think there is big-play potential with Holmes in this game, as the Patriots' secondary struggled last week against the Giants' Victor Cruz and Mario Manningham.
WR - Plaxico Burress - numberFire projection: 4.36 receptions, 49.19 yards, 0.28 TDs, 6.63 fantasy points
Despite not finding the end zone, Burress looked as good as he has as a Jet last week against the Bills. It looks like he has finally found some rapport with Sanchez, and going up against a weak opponent in New England presents a good matchup. The Patriots don't have anyone who can match up physically with Burress, and that should give him a goos shot to haul in a score.
TE - Dustin Keller - numberFire projection: 3.43 receptions, 39.03 yards, 0.36 TDs, 6.11 fantasy points
Did you see what Jake Ballard was able to do last week against the Patriots? If I had Keller, I'd start him.
Sit
RB - Shonn Greene - numberFire projection: 11.62 rushes, 48.26 yards, 0.50 TDs, 10.95 fantasy points
My guess is this: New England knows it can't stop the pass, and will be apprehensive with the Jets' weapons. They can't allow the Jets to get their ground game going, or else it's game over. I think they'll do their best to stop the run and hope they can catch Sanchez on an off night. Plus, Greene just doesn't find the end zone.
Jets Defense - numberFire projection: 20.7 points allowed, 2.57 sacks, 1.84 turnovers, 0.23 TDs, 8.27 fantasy points
I have the Jets defense on my team, but I'm going with the 49ers this week. I just don't think you can ever be too comfortable going against Tom Brady, let alone a ticked-off, off two straight losses Tom Brady. I'll pass.
