A 36-yard touchdown reception by Buffalo Bills wide receiver Brad Smith from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has helped the Bills and New York Jets enter the fourth quarter of an AFC East showdown at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ tied at 21. Smith's first touchdown catch of the season came a play after Jets punt returner, Antonio Cromartie, muffed a punt, which was recovered by Buffalo at its own 36-yard line.
Earlier in the third quarter, an 18-yard touchdown reception by tight end Dustin Keller from quarterback Mark Sanchez gave the Jets a one-score lead, 21-14, over the Bills. Keller's touchdown was his second of the day and capped a solid eight-play, 80-yard drive that ended with 3:58 to go in the third.
The second half began with Buffalo driving into New York territory, but its march stalled at the 41-yard line when it couldn't convert on third-and-7. The Bills punted and then the Jets drove down the field to score their third touchdown of the day.
The Bills will begin the fourth quarter with the ball.
