And while this weekend’s match-up won’t make or break either team’s chances of making the playoffs, Jets head coach Rex Ryan still expects his team to play that way.
From Wednesday’s press conference:
"Just don’t assume that on Sunday we can roll out there. It’s important right now that we get physically, mentally, emotionally ready right now. We know we have the opportunity right in front of us that we talked about, trying to win our division, and the opportunity is right in front of us. We’re running into it. We understand that and we’ll be ready. There are absolutely no excuses, time off (or) whatever, that helps us, obviously. Our guys are fresh, but mentally, we have to be focused, we have to be sharp and understand that it will be a physical game."
The Jets came up lame out of the bye the past two years after eight consecutive seasons with a post-bye victory. Winning back-to-back games prior to the break should weigh in New York’s favor.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez and the Gang Green offense will no doubt be wary of the Bills’ ball-hawking, but it looks like Plaxico Burress may have finally settled into a groove based on his performance against the San Diego Chargers in week seven.
Can New York win its division on Sunday? No, but overcoming Buffalo at home sure puts them a heck of a lot closer.
