The Jets season could be in a tailspin very soon. Two bad losses and locker room finger pointing will do that. Add a very tough matchup this week against the division rival New England Patriots, and things could come to a head very soon in Florham Park. The Jets go up against a Patriots defense that has allowed a ton of yards this season, but the performance of the Jets' offense this season doesn't emit much confidence in fantasy owners who have Jets on their squad. The return of Nick Mangold should help the Jets offense, but will it be enough to garner a start on your fantasy team? Here's a quick primer on the Jets' top players' numberFire projections for Week 5.
Start
Santonio Holmes (WR) - numberFire Projection: 3.68 receptions, 54.07 yards, 0.30 TDs, 7.47 fantasy points
Analysis: The growing rift between Mark Sanchez and Santonio Holmes could actually be a good thing for fantasy owners of Holmes. Whether it's a good thing or not for the Jets on Sunday is another thing, but I bet Sanchez looks Holmes' way early and often. I think the numberFire projections seem accurate, but I think Holmes could find the end zone against a weak Pats defense.
Your Call
Shonn Greene (RB) - numberFire Projection: 13.88 carries, 61.62 yards, 0.66 TDs,11.27 fantasy points
Analysis: Solely based on the numberFire projection, which places Greene as the 12th ranked RB this week, he's an automatic start in just about every league. But that all depends on who you also have on your team. I can think of a lot of other plays you can make. Greene has not proven anything this season, and has been a total fantasy bust. In a game where the Jets could be down big, he may get very few touches.
And that brings us to...
Sit
Mark Sanchez (QB) - numberFire Projection: 19.46 completions, 1.06 TDs, 0.92 interceptions, 12.35 fantasy points
Analysis: The Sanchize is a sit until he stops turning the ball over consistently. You have to have a better QB on your fantasy roster. If you don't, you're either in a 30 team league, or need to rethink whether or not you should be playing fantasy football in the first place.
Dustin Keller (TE) - numberFire Projection: 4.01 receptions, 42.39 yards, 0.28 TDs, 5.92 fantasy points
Analysis: Everyone in the NFL is starting to realize who Sanchez's security blanket is, and that's Keller. The Patriots will look to take him completely out of the game and make Sanchez beat them to the outside and deep. I expect a quiet game from Keller.
Plaxico Burress (WR) - numberfFire Projection: 3.61 receptions, 54.20 yards, 0.08 TDs, 5.73 fantasy points
Analaysis: After this game, it will probably be Plax's turn to point the finger at Sanchez.
Jets Defense/Special Teams - numberFire Projection: 16.65 points allowed, 2.25 sacks, 1.78 turnovers, 7.55 fantasy points
Analysis: The Jets' D had a good week last week, but that was against Joe Flacco and the Ravens. Up against Brady and the Pats? We'll pass.
