2013 NFL Mock Draft: Jets go with defense

The Jets are taking a pass rusher in a new mock draft, despite the needs present on the other side of the ball.

USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets need a lot of help in a lot of areas. Despite having one of the NFL's best defenses not that long ago, the Jet defense has declined recently. The offense also needs a ton of work, but CBSSports.com's Dane Brugler has the Jets taking a defender in his latest mock draft in LSU defensive end/linebacker Barkevious Mingo.

Mingo can fit in as a pass rushing linebacker in New York, and would give the team a much-needed boost of athleticism in the front seven. He only had 4.5 sacks at LSU in 2012, but he was often asked to do a lot of things besides just rushing the passer. Here's what Brugler thinks about Mingo:

The Jets need a lot of help in several areas, mostly on offense, including the quarterback position. But the Jets have struggled to put pressure on the opponents' backfield and Mingo would give Rex Ryan's defense a pass rusher with upside.
