2013 NFL Mock Draft: Jets take offensive lineman in new SB Nation mock

New, 1 comment

The Jets need help in a lot of areas, but SB Nation's latest mock draft has them addressing their offensive line with the ninth overall pick.

This is a really big offseason for the New York Jets, and the team needs to remake itself at several positions. Most of the attention has gone to quarterback and the defense, but the offense line could use some new blood as well.

SB Nation's newest mock draft has been released, and it has the Jets taking Alabama guard Chance Warmack with the ninth overall pick.

For a team that seems like it just needs to catch a break, this would be a disastrous scenario for the Jets. The best pass rushers are all off the board, and this is too early for a running back. The decision here would be Warmack, Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro or a trade back. It's true, guards don't get drafted this highly, but it's arguably the Jets' biggest need after a pass rusher. It's hard to see them taking a third first round defensive lineman in as many years or a wide receiver.

Warmack is the top interior offensive lineman available in the draft, so there's no doubting his quality. However, taking an interior offensive lineman with a top 10 pick is certainly unorthodox. If a scenario similar to this plays out in April and the team's top targets have already been selected by the ninth pick, the Jets may opt to trade back in the first round and try to stock up on picks.
