New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes left the game against the San Francisco 49ers with a knee injury in the fourth quarter. The team announced that Holmes will not return for the rest of the game, but the severity of the injury is not known yet.
Holmes made a catch and went down to the ground without being hit. Homes dropped the ball and clutched his leg immediately; he was helped off the field and carted to the locker room.
The fumble was recovered by Carlos Rogers and returned 51 yards for a San Francisco touchdown. It was the fourth turnover of the afternoon for the Jets.
Holmes had four catches for 39 yards before leaving the game.
The Jets already lost defensive playmaker Darrelle Revis for the season after he suffered a non-contact knee injury in Week 3.
San Francisco leads New York 34-0 with six minutes left in the fourth quarter.
