Santonio Holmes injury update: Jets wide receiver to have additional surgery, per report

Jets wide receiver to have additional foot surgery in February.

The Star-Ledger-US PRESSWIRE

The road to recovery for New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes could be a bit longer than expected, ESPNNewYork.com's Jane McManus is reporting.

Holmes, who hasn't played since Week 4 when he suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury, will need additional surgery on his left foot in February.

McManus spoke to Holmes Monday when the Jets wide out, who's rehabbing in Florida, was in New York for an annual fundraising event, and said he needs to have plates, which were surgically implanted in October, removed from his injured foot.

Holmes did not publicly comment about his team's roller-coaster season, but did admit he missed being in New York and with his Jets teammates.

Holmes, who has been known to fly off the cuff, dodged questions about whether head coach Rex Ryan should go with Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow or last week's hero Greg McElroy.

"I leave that up to those (coaches), man," Holmes said. "If I get involved in that, I'll be the talk of the world."

The Jets play at the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday (1 p.m. ET on CBS).
