The San Diego Chargers will take on the New York Jets on Sunday in a game that many would have expected to have playoff implications before the season started. Instead, the game will likely be of more interest to fans worrying about draft position, as neither the Jets or Chargers will be taking part in this year's postseason.
The Jets enter the game at 6-8, and coach Rex Ryan has decided to shake things up a bit by benching quarterback Mark Sanchez. Former third-stringer Greg McElroy will start in his place, with Tim Tebow serving as the team's backup. The move has prompted all sorts of speculation in New York this week that the team will look to trade or possibly release Mark Sanchez, while there has been some noise that Tebow may also request the same after being passed over for McElroy.
The Chargers are 5-9 with just two games to play, and are guaranteed to finish the season under .500. They'll be without both their top rusher and their top receiver on Sunday, as both Ryan Mathews and Malcom Floyd were placed on injured reserve this week. The Chargers also place starting tackle Reggie Wells on the season ending injured reserve list.
