Jets vs. Dolphins: Rex Ryan 'blown away' by ugly defeat

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan was very disappointed by his team's poor effort in their 30-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 8.

The New York Jets suffered a humiliating 30-9 home defeat at the hands of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, falling to 3-5 on the season.

Jets coach Rex Ryan was at a bit of a loss for words at his post game press conference (via

"I'm blown away by it, because of the fact that it might have been as good a week of practice and preparation that we've had. But I'm reminded, there's a saying in this league that if you give maximum effort in the classroom and on the practice field, it doesn't guarantee victory."

New York was held scoreless in the first half before finally getting on the board with a field goal in the third quarter. The Jets did not find the end zone until the fourth quarter. This poor offensive showing will likely have more people calling for Tim Tebow to replace Mark Sanchez at quarterback, but Ryan is sticking with Sanchez for now:

"I believe in all of our players. I believe in Mark. Mark has proven that he can win in this league. And I just think he gives us the best chance to win. That's my opinion and that's the one that matters."

Sanchez threw for 283 yards on Sunday, but it was on 54 attempts. He finished with a quarterback rating of just 65.6. For the season, he's completed a shade over 53 percent of his passes with a rating of 74.6.

New York will have plenty of time to lick their wounds, as they are on bye in Week 9 before facing a tough road test up in Seattle in Week 10.
