Week 8 NFL odds: Dolphins vs. Jets

The Jets are slight favorites over AFC East rival Miami as the NFL hits the midpoint of the season.

The New York Jets will stay in the division as they wrap up the month of October hosting the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium. The Jets made an impressive comeback on the Patriots last week, outplaying New England for much of the game before falling in overtime. Now the Dolphins come to town, much improved since the teams met in South Florida at the end of September. That game featured another fourth-quarter comeback by the Jets, who scored 10 points in the final 15 minutes to send it to overtime, where Nick Folk split the uprights for the win.

The first matchup was an even back-and-forth defensive struggle, and the odds makers are setting the line accordingly this time around. The Jets opened as 3-point favorites, the standard margin afforded to the home team for a game that odds makers think is evenly matched. Since it opened at 3, the line has come down to just 1 point in many places.

Miami has won its last two games and is now coming off a bye, likely leading to many betting down the opening line. Ryan Tannehill has established himself in his rookie season, and the Jets can expect to see a much more capable passing attack in this second matchup. A loss would send the Jets into sole possession of last place in the division, but with the bye week on tap, you can expect Rex Ryan to have his team full-go on Sunday as the season hits the halfway mark.
