The New York Jets, despite season-ending injuries to Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes, and an offense that has at times looked like it belonged in a Pee Wee league, find themselves with a 3-3 record and in a four-way tie in the AFC East. As if every game against the New England Patriots weren't pressure-filled enough, a win Sunday would give the Jets wins over every other team in the division, and a rare chance to take on the Patriots when they're (seemingly) vulnerable.
Jets coach Rex Ryan know how dangerous the Patriots are, however, and recognizes that, despite his defense's solid performances the last two weeks against the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts, the Patriots are a whole different animal.
"Yeah, I don't think we're going to shut [the Patriots' offense] down," Ryan said during his Friday press conference. "Nobody is going to shut them down. Obviously, you have to do a good enough job to get them off the field. You can't let them keep driving the football like they do. It is going to be a challenge, and I know what you're saying, but across from left to right it's going to be a challenge. For everybody underneath and whoever has them in coverage, there's five eligible and everybody has to do a great job."
Ryan also spent some time talking about the Patriots' breakout running back, Stevan Ridley, and his own running game's breakout against the Colts, which resulted in three touchdowns and more than 150 yards for Shonn Greene. The Jets and Patriots play Sunday on CBS at 4:25 p.m. ET.
