New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is likely out for the rest of the 2012 season after suffering a lisfranc injury to his left foot on a bizarre play against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
According to Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole, it is still unclear whether the foot is broken, but Holmes will, in all likelihood, miss the rest of the Jets' games.
In the fourth quarter of the Jets' loss to the 49ers, Holmes' leg came out from under him without any contact, sending the wide receiver to the ground and forcing Holmes to fumble. The fumble was returned for a touchdown as part of the 49ers' 34-0 victory over the Jets.
Holmes immediately reached for his knee, but MRIs after the game came back negative.
For the season, Holmes caught 20 passes for 272 yards and one touchdown in the better part of the Jets' first four games. His best game in 2012 came against the Miami Dolphins in Week 3, as Holmes hauled in 147 yards on nine catches.
