The New York Jets are fearful that wide receiver Santonio Holmes could miss the remainder of the season due to the injury he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. He has already been ruled out
Holmes sustained the injury when he slipped and fell to the turf untouched after completing a reception in the third quarter. To make matters worse, Holmes let go of the ball, which allowed Carlos Rogers to recover the fumble for a 51-yard touchdown as the wide receiver rolled on the turf in agony. He was unable to put pressure on his leg and required a cart to be removed from the field.
Already ruled out for the team's Week 5 meeting with the Houston Texans, head coach Rex Ryan was unable to provide a time table for Holmes' return. According to Mehta, the team will not pursue free agent receiver Plaxico Burressregardless of the diagnosis on Holmes as the organization believes he would hamper quarterback Mark Sanchez.
