The New York Islanders and Columbus Blue Jackets conclude their 2012 NHL seasons on Saturday in Columbus at Nationwide Arena.
Neither team will reach the playoffs, but the Islanders can take solace that their young skaters gained a year of experience. The 23-year old John Tavares was most impressive, becoming the first Islander since Ziggy Palffy in 1997-98 to reach 80 points.
Tavares (31 goals, 50 assists, 81 points) and Matt Moulson (36 goals, 33 assists, 69 points) could become the first New York duo to reach 70 points apiece since 1995-96 if Moulson records a single point during the finale on Saturday.
New York and Columbus last met on Nov. 24, 2010 and the Blue Jackets came away with a 4-3 victory.
