New York has started a five-game road trip with victories over the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Islanders allowed just 14 shots against Toronto on Tuesday night and scored three goals in the final seven minutes to emerge with a 5-2 victory.
Tampa Bay snapped a three-game losing skid by edging the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 in a shootout on Thursday night. Teddy Purcell netted the game-winner in the sixth round of the shootout, sending a backhand past Tampa Bay goalie Nikolai Khabibulin.
