Islanders Vs. Flyers Final Score: New York Loses 5th Straight As Late Rally Falls Short

The New York Islanders fell 3-2 to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 27 straight shots against to open the game, on his way to setting a franchise record with over 240 straight minutes without allowing a goal over the previous three full games and change. The Islanders made a late rally in the third period but ultimately came up short, losing their fifth straight game.

Zac Rinaldo, Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell all scored for the Flyers to give them a 3-0 lead heading into the third period. The Islanders didn't find the net until the 13:30 mark of the third period, scoring on a Michael Grabner tip-in. John Tavares scored his 31st goal of the season just 35 seconds later, creating a tense final six minutes.

The comeback wasn't meant to be, however, with Bryzgalov turning back New York's only two other shots on goal over the final minutes. Evgeni Nabokov finished with 19 saves against 22 shots on goal. He has now allowed at least three goals in eight of his last nine games.
