The New York Islanders were out-shot 45-18 by the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night, but Evgeni Nabokov never once let the puck hit nylon. The veteran goaltender recorded his first shutout of the season, leading the Isles to a 1-0 win on a shootout.
The Islanders were equally vexed by Ilya Bryzgalov in regulation and overtime, though they admittedly did not give him the same challenge. Frans Nielsen beat Bryzgalov on a backhander on the Islanders' first shootout attempt, however, and John Tavares bested him glove side to put the Isles up 2-0.
Nabokov stuffed Danny Briere and Wayne Simmonds on the Flyers' only two attempts to secure the win. It was a gem of a performance for a player that was released from SKA St. Petersburg just last year and was expected to ride the bench behind Rick DiPietro this season.
