The New York Islanders have made a habit of stepping their game up against quality opponents lately. Thursday night's 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers was the Isles' third win over a team ranked in the Top 4 in its respective conference in the last nine days, with victories coming over the Detroit Red Wings and the Washington Capitals as well.
Evgeni Nabokov was once again instrumental in the win, turning back 40 of 41 shots on goal by the Flyers. He started in net for all three big wins, allowing just two goals in that span. John Tavares added two assists to push his point streak to 11 games. More importantly, the Islanders snapped a 13-game losing streak to the Flyers in Philly.
Tavares assisted on the Islanders' first goal of the night, feeding Matt Moulson just 28 second into the second period to open up the scoring. Later in the period, Josh Bailey knocked in a shorthanded goal to put the Islanders up 2-0. Mark Streit scored on a 33-foot slapshot in the third to add to the comfortable margin.
