The New York Islanders were defeated by the Nashville Predators 3-1 at the Nassau Coliseum on Monday.
The Islanders didn't score until the third period and were overwhelmed by three goals in the first period by Nashville. The Predators beat Isles' goalie Kevin Poulin on their first two shots from Sergei Kostitsyn and Matt Halischuk. David Legwand would score later in the period.
The silver lining in the game was that John Tavares extended his point streak to nine games for the Islanders when he scored his 16th goal of the season at the 16:02 mark of the third period. Matt Moulson and Kyle Okposo assisted on the goal. The lack of goals by New York was not for lack of trying. Pekka Rinne was great in net for Nashville and made 36 saves.
The Islanders have allowed a goal on the first shot of the game nine times this season. The start was only the second of the season for Poulin.
