Trevor Gillies, New York Islanders Forward, Ejected After Dirty Hit

Let's get the good news out of the way first: the New York Islanders impressively defeated the Minnesota Wild, 4-1, at the Nassau Coliseum Wednesday night. Blake Comeau had two goals, while Franz Nielson had three assists.

Trevor Gillies, who was in his first game back since returning from a nine-game suspension after his involvement in the on-ice pandemonium against the Pittsburgh Penguins, also made his name known, albeit in a very unsavory way. Early in the second period, Islanders forward Justin DiBenedetto was boarded by the Wild's Cal Clutterbuck (who was already ticketed for the box) -- and Gillies was not very happy about it, so he decided to to throw a high elbow at an unsuspecting Clutterbuck, as his head hit the glass.

Gillies was assessed a five-minute checking-from-behind call and was also given a game misconduct. It also doesn't appear that his recent timeout did any good and he's likely going to miss another slew of games. Gillies has played 42 games at the NHL level; he has two points and 114 penalty minutes.
