The Islanders step back onto the ice on Thursday night against another team struggling as of late, the Avalanche. After a hot start, Colorado has lost six of its last seven games, dropping to 7-7-1.
Meanwhile, New York (4-6-2) has won once in its last eight games. The Islanders got whipped 6-2 by the Bruins, a loss that wiped out the good feelings lingering from a 5-3 win against the Capitals.
New York will have to watch its penalties in this matchup. The Avalance boast the No. 1 Power Play in the NHL, converting on 29.2 of their chances so far this season. The Islanders have been a slightly below average defensive team this season and average on the power play. New York ranks 16th in the NHL in killing man-down situations.
