Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) – Mike Santorelli put together his first career two-goal game to lead Florida past the New York Islanders, 4-1, at the Nassau Coliseum.
Stephen Weiss added a goal and an assist, while Tomas Vokoun recorded 39 saves to earn the victory for the Panthers, who have won four of their last six.
Matt Moulson recorded the only goal for the Isles, who suffered a 12th straight defeat, the last two under interim head coach Jack Capuano, to match the longest losing streak in club history that started with a loss to the Panthers on October 23.
The Islanders also dropped 12 in a row from December 27, 1972 – January 18, 1973 and again between November 22 – December 17, 1988.
Dwayne Roloson made 27 stops on 31 shots in defeat for New York.
The hosts struck first when Moulson intercepted an errant pass between the circles and beat Vokoun high over the glove side 13:07 into the contest.
The Panthers then tallied four times in a span of eight minutes in the first half of the middle session to take control of the game.
Santorelli got the game tied with a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Roloson high to the short side at 2:27 before Marty Reasoner’s wrister put the visitors in front for good just 39 seconds later.
Weiss took a pass in flight at the Islander blue line and ripped a slap shot that Roloson stopped. However, the rebound squirted free to David Booth, who dished to Santorelli and he deposited his second of the night from the crease to make it 3-1 at 6:25.
Weiss then stole the puck and beat Roloson with a wrist shot from between the circles four minutes later to finish the scoring.
